Sharing with you part 2

leaderThis is the leader of the horses, she can be very pushy.  She doesn’t seem to care for me but maybe that’s ‘cause when I’m around, Storm doesn’t listen to her.  When I got out to diddle with him she seems to make him pay when I’m done, like did I give you permission to go up there? She drinks first out of the spring, she decides where they go on the field…and if you don’t listen or you try to cut, I’ve seen her kick or bite the other horses.

amish buggyThe horses don’t seem to care for the sound of the cars going by our house, but they do notice an Amish buggy coming.  They will stop grazing and watch the buggy pass and once it’s out of sight they will continue to graze.

stormStorm seems to be doing ok with the other horses he still loves for us to come down and give him attention.  He seems to stick with one of the younger horses and the largest horse.  They also seem like maybe they would like to have some attention from us, but still not sure of it all.  The leader and other younger horse stick together and don’t seem interested in getting attention from us at all.

My experience tip for today is that whoa, like said in all those cowboy movies, didn’t work for me  .  After we opened up the pastures again Storm didn’t want to leave the other horses.  So when I tried to lead him to the spring he fussed the whole way with that blowing noise they do.  I showed him the spring and he drank but then wanted to get back up to  his new friends.  Only thing is I was still holding on to his lead as he started run.  Try staying in step with a 700lb horse while he is running, the only thing that came to mind was “Whoa, Whoa!” but he didn’t stop.  Finally I shouted “Stop NOW!” and that worked.  He kinda looked at me as I doubled over to catch my breath like why didn’t you just say that all along?  : )
