Let's Make some Ornaments

Materials: Worsted Weight Yarn
Needle: Size 5 circ
Stitch marker
Scrap yarn (mittens)
Gauge: It doesn't really matter depends on the size you want

MC: Main Color
CC: Contrast Color
If you are making a solid stocking/mitten just ignore my MC and CC : )


For the Stocking using Magic Loop
With your CC yarn CO 22sts and divide over your 2 needles and join
K1,P1 for 4 rounds (1/2 inch)break yarn and switch to MC
St st for 14 Rows (2" total)break yarn and switch to CC
Heel Flap (worked over 11sts)
Knit 1 Row
Row 1: Sl1, Purl 10sts
Row 2: Sl1, Knit 10sts
Repat the last 2 rows for a total of 3 times

Heel flap
Sl1, P5, P2tog, P1
Sl1, K2, SSK, K1
Sl1, P3, P2tog, P1
Sl1, K4, SSK, K1 (7sts remain) break yarn and switch to MC

Gusset
With same needle holding your 7 heel sts go down the side and pick up 3 sts and one in the corner (total of 4sts)

Knit across the 11 instep sts on the 2nd needle

Pull that needle out like you would to knit across the 1rst needle but first pick up the corner st and 3 going up the side. Knit 4 of the heel sts and place your maker, this marks the start of your rounds.

Knit 1 Round and then begin Gusset Decreases
Rnd 1: From start of round knit till last 3 sts K2tog, K1
Knit across 11 instep sts on Needle 2
K1, SSK knit to marker
Rnd 2: Knit

Repeat till you have 11sts on Needle 1 and Needle 2

Work St st for 5 rounds

Break yarn and switch to CC and begin toe decreases
Knit 1 Round

Rnd 1:From begining of round knit till last 3 sts work K2tog, K1
On 2nd needle work K1, SSK knit till last 2sts work K2tog, K1
Back on 1rst needle work K1, SSK and knit to marker

Rnd 2: Knit

Repeat the last 2 Rounds until you have 5sts left on both needles. Break yarn leaving enough to kitchener the toe sts together and then weave in your ends.

Crochet a small chain and attach at the top of the sock for a little hanger.



Let's Make some mittens now
With CC Yarn CO 20sts and divide over your 2needles
K1, P1 for 1/2 an inch
Switch to MC
K1 Round
Begin Thumb increases
Round1: M1, K the round
Round 2: Knit
Round 3: M1, K1, M1, knit the round
Round 4: Knit
Round 5: M1, K3, M1 Knit the round
Round 6: Knit
Round 7: M1, K5, M1, knit the round
Round 8 Knit
Next Round place your 7 thumb sts on scrap yarn, knit the round (pull first 2sts tight to help close up the gap)

Continue St st for 7 Rounds

Begin top of mitten decreases
Needle 1: K1, SSK knit to last 3 sts on needle, K2tog, K1
Needle 2: K1, SSK Knit to last 3 sts on needle, K2tog, K1
Repeat the decrease round till 4sts remain (2 on each needel) cut yarn and pull through.

Thumb
Place the 7sts on the scrap yarn onto your needle and pick 3 sts from the round above. Place 5sts on each needle and Knit 2 Rounds.
Work Decrease Rnd: K1, SSK, K2tog, K1, SSK, K2tog
6sts Remain cut yarn and pull through

Weave in all your ends

Make a small chain to attach at the cuff of the mitten and hang on your tree!
