Flamin’ Mittens
Materials
Plymouth Encore DK in red, orange, yellow, and blue
Size 5 circ needle (or needle for gauge)
Tapestry Needle
Scrap piece of yarn
Marker
Chart for Hot Rod Socks

Notes:
SM~ Stitch Marker
PM~ Place Marker
M1~ Make One

Gauge: 6sts per inch

With Blue yarn CO 40 sts divide between 2 needles for Magic Loop

Work K1, P1 for 3”
For Left Hand Mitten
Round 1: Knit
Round 2: Change to Red yarn and knit
Round 3: M1, PM, Knit to end of Round (41sts)
Round 4: Knit
Round 5: Knit 1, M1, Knit to end of round (42sts)
Round 6: Knit
Round 7: M1, Knit to end of round (43sts)
Round 8: Knit
Round 9: Knit to sm, M1, Knit to end of round (44sts)
Round 10: Knit
Round 11: M1, Knit to end of round (45sts)
Round 12: Knit
Round 13: Knit to sm, M1, Knit to end of round (46sts)
Round 14: Knit
Round 15: M1, Knit to end of round (47sts)
Round 16: Knit
Round 17: Knit to sm, M1, knit to end of round (48sts)
Round 18: Knit
Round 19: Place the 8 sts for the thumb on the scrap yarn. CO 8sts and Knit to the end of the round
Round 20: Knit

Arrange sts so that there is 24 on each needle

Now you will begin to follow the chart it is designed by Melanie Gibbons for the Hot Rod Socks. Work the entire chart all away around the mitten.

After the last row of the chart you will knit 2 rounds in blue.

Now you begin your decreases:
First Needle: K1, SSK, knit to last 3 sts on needle, K2tog, K1
Second Needle: K1, SSK, Knit to last 3sts on needle, K2tog, K1
Repeat till there are only 2 sts left on each needle (4sts total).

Cut yarn and pull through the 4sts and then pull through the top of the mitten.

Thumb:
Place the 8sts on the scrap yarn onto your needle. Pick up 8sts (where you co over the thumb hole).
Work 1 Round in Red
Begin Chart Work Chart till Round 7 begin decreases as above for mitten decreases, you will have to fiddle with the colors. I just tried not to get to many yellows/blues together. Work till you have 2 sts on each needle (4sts total) cut yarn and pull through.

Weave in your ends and block.

Right Hand you need to work the thumb increases as follows:
Round 3: Knit across first needle,
M1, PM, Knit across 2nd needle (41sts)
Round 4: Knit
Round 5: Knit across first needle
Knit to SM, M1, knit to end of 2nd needle (42sts)
Round 6: Knit
Round 7: Knit across first needle
M1, Knit to end of 2nd needle (43sts)
Round 8: Knit
Round 9: Knit across first needle
Knit to SM, M1, knit to end of 2nd needle (44sts)
Round 10: Knit
Round 11: Knit across first needle
M1, Knit to end of 2nd needle (45sts)
Round 12: Knit
Round 13: Knit across first needle
Knit to SM, M1, knit to end of 2nd needle (46sts)
Round 14: Knit
Round 15: Knit across the first needle
M1, Knit to end of 2nd needle (47sts)
Round 16: Knit
Round 17: Knit across first needle
Knit to SM, M1, knit to end of needle (48sts)

Continue as for the left hand mitten.
