You might remember that Sallie had her kittens a little while ago and then moved to the loft of the barn in an old deep computer box. We could no longer reach them and when Missy came up missing, that is where she took Missy’s kitten.
I had to do some rigging of barrels to get me up close enough to get to the box but then still wasn’t high enough to bring it down. I knew it had to come down ‘cause her kittens should be old enough to move on to dry cat food and Sallie was spending her time calling for them on the ground of the barn…no longer wanting to go up to their cries. We have had some hot days and when she would come down she would be panting like a dog…I decided those kittens had to come down.
We also have baby birds the nest is different instead of in a tree…it’s made of mud and sticks…stuck to the barn. I can’t get a good picture of the birds that are flying around it but they are really pretty and different. Have peach/tan bellies, navy on the back, but their tail feather is split not your usual looking tail feather. Anyways they spend their days circling the area and fussing.
One day while out checking on Storm I heard this racket of click clacking…I climbed into the pasture and made my way to the spring.
There was Theodore coming out of a bush all loving and talking. I then realized he was after a nest and the click clacking was mad birds. He is such a lazy hunter, being a boy I know he isn’t going to kill the moles/mice…but hunt for baby birds?? That’s all he has caught this spring/summer.
Here is a mad bird. I think a meadowlark?
My experience tip: Have you ever had a Labrador or known someone who did? They all seem to think they are much smaller than what they are. I had one growing up that wanted to be a lap dog, she would sit on me and all you seen was her with human legs sticking out. I think this is how horses think. They are very loving and want attention but they think they are a small dog not a LARGE animal. Storm likes to have his head on you and wants you to rub it or give him a hug. He will stand beside you and next thing you know this is head is coming towards you and just busts into your chest, if your not prepared it will knock you back a few steps. Leading to him being spooked. I’ve figured out how to catch the head as it comes to me and gentle bring it to my chest. You can also ‘cause sleepy time with the petting between the eyes as the head rests on you. : )
