A day late but worth the wait

The only time I really knitted in WV was the drive down, and then I was working on Roo’s mitten. After that the only knitting time was frogging Roo’s mitten for the finger decrease and a dishrag on the way home.

Instead I crocheted and spinned!! I have been trying to figure out what to make our n’bors for Christmas. Last year I knitted them both scarves and they went crazy, so this year I was thinking afghan. At first I was set on doing a lace throw, but the price had me kinda wondering.

However, when I was home in July my grandmother was working on a ripple afghan and this caught my attention. When I came home I looked it up and wondered if I could do it but decided better stick with what I know. Then I went to knit night and one of the knitters was working on the Ripple Afghan and it caught my eye and I wondered….so finally I asked mom. What should I do? She told me she could get me started on the Ripple afghan while home.

Here is what I have so far and it’s not much, poor mom had to keep ripping me back and figuring out where I went wrong. I hope I can keep it going up here and finish it. Not knowing crochet very well at all, I’m kinda nervous to mess it up. I can’t read the crochet sts like I can knitting. : )

Here is a Granny square she helped me with too. I had printed out a pattern last time I made them and couldn’t get the color changes right. She worked with me on Thurs night with this (again she had to do some ripping back) but I finally got it done lol. This is going to be mailed out for an afghan on KH.

Now for spinning, she got me started on the starter kit she got for me, it came with a top drop spindle and pretty roving. She had taken a class the weekend before and they had worked on bottom drop down spindle so dad me the center one, that way I could try both. The itty bitty one is the one I bought for 5.00 and couldn’t figure it out, as you can see I have some started on it too. YAY!!

Here we have Roo’s mittens, they are finished! She really likes them and I may try making the matching hat, but I need to start Isaiah’s first. I gotta figure out what I want to chart out exactly though.

Pattern: Rosie’s Mittens (mittens are not blocked in photos)
Needle: Size 4 ML
Yarn: Encore Worsted in Hot Pink and White
Issues: Decreases at the top…I forgot to write what I did on the first one ‘cause I couldn’t get it to work out like hers. Then when I got to the 2nd had a bunch of “what in the world did I do” moments : )

I also got my September sock yarn from Sockamania!

**One of the reasons I didn't have a chance to post yesterday, was because a dear friend of mine found out her cancer has returned. She tells most we are her adopted grandkids and that isn't far from the truth. When she found out my back was out on me, she was here no questions asked. When Isaiah started school I had no car...she never batted an eye to jump in the car and go pick him up for me, when he was sick. When I had a dr's appt she has sat in the waiting room with my kids for me. When I had Roo she was there at the hospital, when we moved she was there for us. Her and her husband don't own much but you can't tell that at all 'cause their hearts are full of gold. They have been great/wonderful friends to me, I hope now I can return some favors and help when needed. Please say a little prayer for my dear friend**
