Simple Things

Growing up every February we would receive a box from our grandparents, who would be spending the winter in FL. It would come in cereal boxes and all duck taped up and we knew that was our box! Inside it held a box of Valentine Candy for each of us and it also let us know that soon they would be home. We grew up just basically a street and hill over from them and if we were not home well you knew we were with them. I have many fond memories of the time I spent with them.

Long after they stopped traveling to FL we still received the Valentine box. Then in 2002 we lost Grannie and realized things would not be the same, but that Feb. I still received a Valentine from my grandfather. It meant security to me and that everything would be ok. It’s funny how simple things can strike you in the moment.

So as I open the box from my Grandfather and see my Valentine I look fondly back on the memories I shared with my grandparents and the wonderful childhood I had. : )
