Craft Fair

Lately my blog has been lacking projects, and that’s because in between daily happenings I’ve been using any free moment to work on items for today.

We did have a small set up over Labor day weekend but it really was a bust.  I was pretty much thinking today would go the same way.  How do you know what people want?

Mom, dad, and myself worked on items for today.  I was up till midnight getting it all together (things at school put me behind this week), and by 9 this morning we were ready to go.  It was a pretty steady strand of folks until noon, and then crickets could be heard.

Still though we did a lot better than I had expected, we didn’t sell out but no one did.  I talked to other vendors while cleaning up and most were kinda disappointed in how they did, and thought years past had been better.  They were hoping for bad weather so more people would come in.  I figured pretty weather would have more passing by.

I did find out some tips though to make it go easier:
1. Have a cute little girl who will talk to anyone with you
2. Smile and greet even if they are passing your table, many will then turn around and see what you have and purchase something small.
3. Be nice to the other vendors they will keep stopping by and will tell others to stop by your table.
4. Knit while waiting for customers, some will come around again to ask you questions on it.  I even had several ask if I would have classes, (which I have in the past).  Maybe now more would come?
5. Have an eye catching table with a variety
6. Don’t let two little girls manage a table on their own.  I had some ornaments marked 2.00 each, they sold them for 25cents LOL

Roo also made friends with all the vendors and she rec’d free honey candy, lotion, candle, and who knows what else. She had a bag full.

Here are some of the items our table held

I also picked up cross stitch but due to how much time this took, I decided to keep it :p

A neat story about dad’s knife - A gentleman stopped by my table and wanted to know who made the black smith/forged items. I told him that my dad had made them. He then asked if he had a shop near by and I told him no that he is in WV.  He then asked “so this knife is made from a WV rail road spike?”

When I told him that it was, he then went on to tell me how he was from the Richwood area and in the 20s his dad lost his job with the railroad company there.  They then packed up and moved up here to help a relative with their farm, they traveled back and forth visiting family.

He then purchased the knife saying he felt it brought him closer to his father *awwwwww*  Dad also got a request for another knife because of this gentleman showing the others his knife lol.
