2011 is looking up

Gideon
We left WV on Saturday and when we arrived home I could tell Gideon was off.  He usually pouts at me for awhile when I return so I thought (hopefully) maybe that is what it was.

On Sunday I knew, my cat was almost dead.  I picked him up and he let out these pitiful cries, his head would just roll, he couldn’t stand, move, and his breathing was heavy.

I started calling every Veterinarian’s office in the area, leaving messages for them to call me back.  The first one to respond was the closest to me *so thankful* so I laid Gideon in the car and took off.  His breathing was getting worse and he was starting to jerk around.  I beat the Veterinarian there and just hoped he would hold on.

I could tell as soon as the Veterinarian saw him he was not good, his body temp. was so low.  He told me it was a blocked bladder which can kill a cat within 72 hrs.  I told him Gideon had issues before Christmas Eve but then was back to his old self.  He told me that must have been just a bug, it doesn’t go away and then return.

He told me not to get my hopes up that a male cat with this was a bear to fix.  He could not give me any hope on how he would do.  He asked me if a praying woman I told him yes, he said then you better start.

I had to leave Gideon there and come home to the longest days, so stressful with everything running through my mind, I just wanted to curl up and cry but knew I would enter that horrible ugly cry where you can’t stop.

Monday morning his body temp was up and he was more responsive, Monday evening his body temp had slipped and they didn’t know…The urine bag would come out Tuesday (keep it in for 48hrs) and we would know asap if was corrected or come back.

Tuesday was the longest day as I waited for the call, and waited.  Finally about 15till 6 they called and said I could come get him.  I asked but how is he? They said he had been able to go on his own, but was it gone completely? They still didn’t know.

The kids and me hopped in the car and rushed down to get him and they told me they still could not give me any promises on his health.  That I could wake up in the morning and be back to square 1 with him.  They explained to me why in a male cat it was so difficult, why there was no promise fixes.

They felt he would do better at home with no stresses, they said he had really started to hate them and show it.  They also told me he could stand to lose about 4 bls.

So far he is doing good he wouldn’t eat for them at all or drink, since being home he is eating and drinking for me.  He has taken his meds today with no blood shed from me.  Best of all he has been able to go…I keep following after him and carrying him around.

Its hard to get a picture of a cat’s neck who doesn’t wanna show, but his neck is sore from the fluids they pushed into him.
