On Saturday the dance season was kicked off with the Dance-a-thon. Ruthie has been practicing on Thursday’s with the minis but this night all ages came together and began to get to know one another.
They started off the evening making a picture frame that their Big Sis, Lil Sis photos will be placed in.
They played games, danced, had dinner, and ran like crazy. It was very loud in the dance studio with squealing, giggling, screaming, and running around. I don’t know how the teachers do it lol.
The big event of the night was the Big Sis/Lil Sis ceremony.
The big Sisters getting ready to re-enter the room to get it started, Roo didn’t know what to expect. I should have went into more detail with her.
The big Sisters on one line facing all the lil’ sisters
The little sisters then sat in the middle of a circle and they were called up one at a time. They would walk around the circle with a candle, and their big sis would blow the candle out. Some big sisters would blow out on the first round, others would tease, and some would let the girls make a few rounds before blowing out their candle. Roo has said since Saturday she didn’t like that part but loved the rest :D
The sisters then had their pictures taken…
got to know one another with surveys…
and came up with their personal handshake.
The point of having a big sister is to help the new comers, to help the girls feel they have someone to turn to, to be a mentor, and to be a friendly face in the dancing crowd.
Roo’s big sis is very sweet and we didn’t know her before this night, she is very patient with Roo, and very helpful. I look forward to seeing how their friendship will grow.
On Sunday the Elite production practice began, now we will start to stay very busy with dance :D
