4-H & fun times

We have spent this week waiting for a launcher for Isaiah’s rocket project with 4-H.  I’m not really sure how I feel about 4-H.  I’ve never been in 4-H before and I think that sometimes gets lost in the club.

I knew we had evaluations coming up but I didn’t know much about them, when I called the ext office to sign Isaiah up, I was told you had to do it in person, and they would be more than happy to answer all my questions since I was a newbie.  We go to sign him up and I start to ask my questions, the lady interrupts me and asks “Does he have a project book?” I reply “yes he does” her reply “all info is in there” and walks away.

Then we go to the 4-H meeting on Friday where I learn the evaluation that I thought was just to give the kids pointers for the real judging at the fair…is the actual judging for the fair.  So we are in a rush to get him ready to launch his rocket that I thought I had till October to do.  I like organization, I like having things done ahead of time, I like knowing what I’m suppose to be doing without feeling dumb when I ask a questions, I don’t like getting half answers that don’t really answer my questions, I don’t like hearing we will be tossed out of 4-H (the club we are in) if we don’t get this done…this week is driving me bonkers.  I’m not sure I’m cut out for 4-H.   :D

Ok end of my 4-H discussion and on to some fun times for the kids.  This week we needed some fun time and we got it two days in a row.

I understand your frustration! We felt that way when our kids transferred to a new school way back when. Can you find another parent who has been in 4-H for awhile who can give you help and pointers? I hope the woman who blew you off isn't in leadership positions! She has NO BUSINESS treating anyone like that!

Thank you Gina! I think this may have been a bad year to join. They are having a lot of cuts in the 4-H program and the levy goes back up in Nov. if it doesn't pass this time...I don't know what they will do. I did find out that usually there is workshops to help, but this year they were cut :(
