Getting ready for the kid's parties

This week we have been busy getting things together for the two parties the kids have. Since Isaiah started kindergarten we have made ornaments for his class mates, something my mom used to do for me and Ray. This year Roo wanted to make some ornaments for her dance class as well.

At church they had the kids do a recycled ornament using last year’s Christmas cards that you received, they were really cute too. I keep every card ‘cause ya know you hate to throw them away so we sat down and went through them. We didn’t use any that were the kid’s cards or cards that were home made. Those I want to put up and keep. We also found out that the length wise cards work better than horizontal cards, had to work harder with them. : )

You first make a ½ circle template and then lay it on your card, figuring the best way to capture the picture. You then fold it in half, and then you fold your top corners down to the fold. So you have 3 Creases like above.

Then you add a drop of glue on the center crease and add string/yarn/dmc floss to the glue.

Then you put glue going down one of the far sides, fold it over.

You then have a little recycled Christmas tree.

We also needed to make snacks for both parties, and usually this is suckers in the shape of Christmas items, but this year we decided to do pretzels. I couldn’t find the big jugs of pretzel rods that you see this time of year so ended up buying little baggies of them. Some are just chocalote and others have sprinkles on them, the kids enjoyed making them as well.

I then found some molds that would work with the pretzels and made Santa, Christmas Trees, and Reindeers (it’s missing ‘cause you couldn’t tell what it was very good). I’m having trouble getting them to set up though so they are in the fridge and hopefully will be ready for tomorrow.

Roo had her party this morning and it was a lot of fun, she took some of the regular pretzel sticks in along with her ornaments. They also made glittery Christmas trees, played games, had refreshments, and just enjoyed talking with one another.

They also could get their hands or faces painted. It was a lot of fun. Another cool thing was the teacher asked for no presents; instead bring in dog/cat food for the local shelter. I loved this idea since coming up for Isaiah’s teacher gift was hard enough lol.

I also made this little Anthro-Inspired Scarflet, after seeing the cute ones Sue made on KH. It’s very fast and easy to do. It has an opening in one of the ribbed sections so you can just weave the other end through and it stays in place. I used the left over yarn from the Spring Beret for it. : )

I keep forgetting to post this, but I can now show you guys one of my test knits. I tested this back in April and it was a very fast knit. I used Caron that was in my stash.

The pattern is Telemark Stocking and you can see more about it here.

Hope you guys have a great day of knitting : )

Everything is so cute! I love the recycled tree. That's a great idea. Some cards are so beautiful, I hate throwing them out, but don't know what to do with them.
