A night at the fair

Friday night was the first night of our local county fair, although I have been singing “our state fair is a great state fair, don’t miss it don’t even be late”. I think that movie is one reason why I enter things in the fair…I love the scene where Margie is standing there with her ma waiting to see if she won…and one of the judges gets a little drunk trying her mince meat. I don’t enter any baked items though, that would be scary lol.

I did enter several knitting items this year, last year I tested the waters with a shawl and socks. This year, I figured if I was going to pay the entry fee I was going to put in whatever I had to fit the categories. One of them is a birthday gift that I really really got to deliver to the person when I get it back lol. They were not sure if my little girl’s dress would go through the judging or be tossed out, I was so nervous they would toss it out. They didn’t have a child’s garment so they decided to put in the sweater category. I was so happy to see that it won 2nd place!! Everything won something but my Hemlock, I kinda wonder if they thought maybe it didn’t belong in the “any other afghan” but it is an afghan, but most prolly wouldn’t know that, unless they browse ravelry. *Link takes you to my photo of Hemlock on flickr*

Up top the white folded item, on the 2nd shelf, is my shawl (1st place) and then on the bottom row the pink dress, is my dress (2nd place).

Here we have my mittens, gloves, and socks that I entered (all 1st place).

Here was best of show and it was something to see the pictures of the process it took him to make this...so pretty!!

I’m really not a fair person at all, I don’t like big crowds, I don’t like all the noise, the people yelling at you to stop and play their games, I don’t like the rides, the fear of losing one of my kids, and this year we took Isaiah’s friend with us. I was constantly worried about something happening.

Just in case someone out there reading this has never been to fair let me share with you what it basically is:

You have rids for kids and then adults (older kids)

Zero Gravity~The boys rode this thing over and over again.

Top Gun Ride

Roo on the Merry go round

The kid's on the swings

The kids riding the ponies

Merry go Round

The Ferris Wheel

This was the boys on the Ferris wheel

This was the boys on bumper cars

You have tons of places to eat

This is called Elephant toes, yum

This is for brendajos ; )

You have tons of little booths set up to sell you things

You have tons of games that sometimes you win something, but really I think they tend to take your money lol

You have several areas set up for folks to enter their items for ribbons, this was flowers.

In this building they have each school do something, it’s then displayed, and they can win ribbons

Isaiah's School

This was the School of Cosemetology

I think this was the local H.S.

Here is the scene in the Art Hall where the knitting items can also be found.

They also have tractor pulls

This guy was getting ready for his tractor pull.

It lasts till next Thursday and the schools around here give the kids 2 days off to go to the fair (I really don’t understand this lol). The kids love going of course, and really is the only reason why we go…this year Isaiah moved up to the larger rides and Roo rode more in the kiddie area. Isaiah went back out today with his friend, but got sick and they brought him home just after a few rides. Of course they want to go back out before it ends, they don’t see the price tag at the end of the night after going HA!

I think today might be a good day to curl up and watch ol’ Dana Andrews in State Fair, enjoy it from my home, while working more on my Southend hobo.

I hope you all have great day of knitting!!

**Thank you JD, for giving me a nudge to enter this year and letting me know that it would be ok**

Congratulations on all your winnigs. That is soawesome, and I know it made you feel really good.
Looks like you all had a good time at the fair too. In Philly, we have carnivals, but they are not as big and inclusive as a state fair. I haven't been to one since I was a kid. Mmmm...funnel cake :)
